The birth of the Mockingbird pickup

Back in 2021, when @paul_guitar_prem brought his Gibson Melody Maker to Christoph (@onguitars) for an upgrade, we had an idea: to create a new kind of Firebird pickup.

After months of research and testing, the first Nick Silver Firebird was born — a pickup with the sparkle and clarity of a single coil, tight lows, rich dynamics, and excellent note separation.

But it still needed a name. That’s when my friend Christoph came up with the idea. Since all the instruments he builds are named after birds, the choice was clear: the Mockingbird.

A Mockingbird is known for its remarkable ability to mimic the songs of other birds and sounds, often loudly and rapidly — just like the unique voice of this pickup.

In the summer of 2021, the very first Mockingbird (Firebird design) came to life, thanks to two friends: Paul Prem and Christoph Noe (On Guitars).
